  9. S3 Speed Up is a TSR program, which speeds up VGA mode 13h (see below!)
  10. and most VESA modes of S3 graphics cards (S3 928 or newer).

  13. S3SPDUP /? shows a help screen.

  16. S3 Speed Up needs a S3 VESA graphics card (S3 928 or newer) to run.
  17.  
  18. The program doesn't check, if a S3 graphics card is present!
  19.  
  20. S3 Speed Up was designed to work with S3 928 chipsets.
  21. It should work with newer S3 chipsets (Trio32, Trio64, Trio64V+,
  22. Vision 864/964, Vision 868/968, Virge, Virge/VX, ...), too.

  24. The speed up of VGA mode 13h (320x200x256) is not 'Mode X' compatible.
  25. This means that some programs (for example DOOM) will not work when
  26. the VGA mode speed up is enabled.

  28. Programs using VESA VBE/Core 2.0 linear frame buffer modes (for example
  29. QUAKE) can not profit from S3 Speed Up.  It is unnecessary to install
  30. S3 Speed Up, if S3 VBE/Core 2.0 version 3.10 or above is installed.

  32. How does S3 Speed Up work?  It activates 'Enhanced Mode Mappings' and
  33. enables 'Linear Addressing' in VGA mode 13h.  And it activates 'Linear
  34. Addressing' in most VESA modes (not in text and 4 bits/pixel modes).
